The redevelopment of Thiess Dempsey House consists of the refurbishment an existing timber cottage built in the 1920’s and provides three additional units within a new building located on the same site. The configuration of the new structure is for a two storey town house style separated by a stair to the single level upper and lower units. All units have two bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge, bath and laundry facilities and three will be universally accessible.

The street architecture and character is retained as the existing cottage is raised and relocated forward towards the road to allow for the new structure. The design provides space for four cars, rainwater tanks and storage areas.

The new units are of modern contemporary design, providing amenity and a very functional approach. They are fully equipped with kitchen and bathrooms, balconies for winter sun, summer shade, daylight and cross ventilation with occupants’ comfort and wellbeing in mind.

The units are often occupied by families for extensive periods so they must not only be functional, but also serve as a home away from home and this has been a strong design consideration. The overall impression is of a beach house or holiday unit, a friendly place to relax.
