Bert is an owner/director of a mining services business, working in the coalfields west of Mackay for the past 15 years. His experience in this area has led to forming many great working relationships with industry leaders and community groups that have been a great asset when bringing people together for fundraising.
Bert’s son Darcy was diagnosed November 2010 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (A.L.L). Darcy, his younger sister and his mum spent 10 months in Brisbane whist he underwent treatment. When the opportunity came to give back to Childhood Cancer Support (CCS) for supporting his family during this time, Bert was able to call on his many years in charity work, organising of functions and gatherings to assist in the events held in Mackay.
He has been an active fundraiser for CCS for 5 years, currently an ambassador in the Mackay region. With a passion for events and fundraising he has been actively involved with The Mackay Raft Race, 1kg Challenge and Camp Crystal. Previously he had been involved in Scouts, school and early childhood P&C committees and various other organisations. Bert is currently expanding his knowledge by studying a Diploma in Events Management in hoping to further assist in future events and fundraising.
